Wij maken de plastic producten die uiteindelijk in de natuur belanden. Wist je dat 80% van het afval in zee van het land komt? [1]. Het meeste plastic neemt een langere route om in het water terecht te komen. Dus iets wat je in de stad op straat gooit, kan uiteindelijk nog steeds in de zee belanden.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/plastic-soep-afvalstromen-zee.jpeg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<h2>\n<p>Al jarenlang plastic vervuiling<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>Plastic in zee is (helaas) niks nieuws. Al tientallen jaren komt er plastic afval in zee terecht. En dit zal alleen maar meer worden. Elk jaar komt er 8 miljard (!) kilo plastic afval in zee bij [2]. Wetenschappers schatten dat er nu al 150 miljard kilo plastic in de oceanen zit [3]. Tegelijkertijd produceert de wereld steeds meer plastic: in 1964 werd er 15 miljard kilo gemaakt en in 2014 was dit gegroeid naar 311 miljard kilo plastic [4].<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>\n<p>Meer en meer<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p>Dus als er niets verandert dan zal er alleen maar meer plastic afval in zee komen. De schokkende voorspelling van onderzoekers is dat als we niets veranderen, de zee\u00ebn in 2050 qua gewicht meer uit plastic dan uit vis zullen bestaan [5].<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>\n<p>Wegwerpplastic<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>Het meest voorkomende plastic afval in zee zijn producten die je elke dag wel gebruikt. Een opvallend kenmerk van al deze producten is dat het <em>single use plastic<\/em> is: plastic dat na een keer gebruiken weer wordt weggegooid. Op afbeelding 3 zie je de top 10 van het meest voorkomende afval in zee. Verpakkingen, kleding, auto\u2019s, verzorgingsproducten, elektronica: bijna alles is (voor een deel) gemaakt van plastic. Nu klinkt het alsof plastic alleen maar slecht is, maar wist je dat dit materiaal ook veel voordelen heeft?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Plastic materiaal:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is goedkoop,<\/li>\n<li>Is veelzijdig,<\/li>\n<li>Kun je jarenlang gebruiken,<\/li>\n<li>Is vrij sterk [6].<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Juist deze voordelen zijn tegelijkertijd ook de nadelen van plastic. Het recyclen van plastic gebeurt veel te weinig. Van 1950 tot 2015 kreeg slechts 9% van het plastic een nieuw leven en de rest werd gestort of verbrand om energie op te wekken [7, 8]. Daarnaast is recyclen het uitstellen van een product weggooien. Dit komt doordat gebruikt plastic in kwaliteit achteruit zal gaan als je er weer een compleet product van wil maken [8].<\/p>\n<p>Plastic kan een leven lang mee. Plastic dat namelijk niet gerecycled wordt kan nog honderden jaren bestaan en kan zelfs nog langer mee als het in kleinere stukjes, beter bekend als microplastic\u00a0, afbreekt. Sommige plastics kunnen zelfs tot 600 jaar blijven bestaan! [9] Als plastic zo lang blijft ronddrijven in zee, dan blijft dat een gevaar voor de dieren in zee nu \u2013 en in de toekomst.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Bronnen<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>R. Nu klinkt het alsof plastic alleen maar slecht is, maar wist je dat dit materiaal ook veel voordelen heeft?\\u00a0<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p>Plastic materiaal:<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<ul>\\n\n\n<li>Is goedkoop,<\\\/li>\\n\n\n<li>Is veelzijdig,<\\\/li>\\n\n\n<li>Kun je jarenlang gebruiken,<\\\/li>\\n\n\n<li>Is vrij sterk [6].<\\\/li>\\n<\\\/ul>\\n\n\n<p>Juist deze voordelen zijn tegelijkertijd ook de nadelen van plastic. Het recyclen van plastic gebeurt veel te weinig. Van 1950 tot 2015 kreeg slechts 9% van het plastic een nieuw leven en de rest werd gestort of verbrand om energie op te wekken [7, 8]. Daarnaast is recyclen het uitstellen van een product weggooien. Dit komt doordat gebruikt plastic in kwaliteit achteruit zal gaan als je er weer een compleet product van wil maken [8].<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p>Plastic kan een leven lang mee. Plastic dat namelijk niet gerecycled wordt kan nog honderden jaren bestaan en kan zelfs nog langer mee als het in kleinere stukjes, beter bekend als microplastic\\u00a0, afbreekt. Sommige plastics kunnen zelfs tot 600 jaar blijven bestaan!
