Seals are wild animals. That is why we want them to return to the sea as soon as possible. We never keep seals in rehabilitation just so visitors can see more animals. This means that the number of seals in the centre can vary; sometimes it’s quiet there. This is actually a very good sign, because it means there are few seals in need of our help at that moment.

NEW EXHIBITION

From this summer a new exhibition can be seen in Pieterburen: WAD EXOTIC! In it we introduce you to an exotic animal: the Japanese oyster and take you into its special history.

See and meet the team

Every day, a dedicated team of veterinarians, seal nurses, and volunteers from around the world care for seals in need. During your visit you will be introduced to them and see them at work. Did you know that by visiting, you support our work?

Things to do at the Sealcentre

Discover our exhibition in the visitors centre to learn all about seals and their habitat: the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take part in all kinds of fun and educational activities, such as a scavenger hunt or a quiz. View seals in the 3 phases of rehabilitation—from the inside pools where they receive intensive care, to the largest outdoor pool. There is plenty to do!

Out and about

There is much to do and see at the Seal Centre itself, but we also offer fun and educational activities outside the centre’s walls. For example, you can come out to the Wadden Sea with us. We offer a number of boat tours and you can even join seal releases. Reserve your seat on board for an unforgettable experience.
