Our future is uncertain.
Help us and donate to support seal care.

Visit us in Lauwersoog between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm

What if everyone donated €1? A small amount, a big difference.

Help seals in need

Our goal is simple: healthy seals in a healthy sea.

That is why we actively work to prevent seals from getting into trouble. We conduct scientific research, educate people about the impact of disturbance, and take action when a seal in the wild needs help. Because seals belong in nature, not in a rescue centre.

When a seal cannot be helped on site, we provide the necessary care in our hospital. As Europe’s largest seal hospital, we provide every animal with the medical care it needs to become strong and healthy again. Our goal: a healthy return to the Wadden Sea.

Visit us in Lauwersoog

We welcome you to our new home base: the port of Lauwersoog. Here, we will become part of the WEC (Wadden Sea World Heritage Centre).

Our new location fits perfectly with our mission: to protect both seals and their unique habitat. Besides a modern seal hospital, the WEC offers an interactive exhibition on the Wadden Sea, facilities for education and scientific research and a spectacular view over the Wadden Sea.

Discover the Wadden Sea Experience, meet the seals and experience how science, nature and discovery come together. Will you come and visit us? By purchasing a WEC ticket, you directly contribute to seal care.

Support us

Since 1971, we have been committed to seals and their habitat. We have been able to do so for so long, thanks to your support. We receive no subsidy from the government. All contributions, in whatever form, are therefore more than welcome.

With your support:

  • -

You contribute to food, medication, clean water and specialist care for the seals in our rescue centre.

  • -

You enable us to train and deploy seal watchers and specialists along the Dutch coast.

  • -

You contribute to education about seals and their habitat, helping to prevent disturbance.

  • -

You enable us to conduct research into the health of seals and their habitat: the Wadden Sea.

Seal, Sea, Science

The Pieterburen Seal Centre Foundation helps seals and their habitat, the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site. We work tirelessly to prevent seals from getting into trouble. But when a seal does need help, it receives the care it needs, partly behind the scenes and largely visible to our visitors.

We believe that healthy seals and a healthy sea are inextricably linked. At our centre, the WEC in Lauwersoog, researchers study what we can learn from this connection – for seals, for our sea and for our own health. By visiting us or making a donation, you support our work. Every contribution counts. Will you join us?
