The Sealcentre has a lot of oppertunities for volunteers and interns on various departments; we can offer internships and volunteering positions in the sealcare department, the veterinary and science departments or with our education team. Due to the kind of work we do here, we are a rescue centre and hospital, there can be some heavy times, both emotionally and physically. But, we hope that with the right attitude and professionalism it would be a rewarding and satisfying experience to help those seals in need.

Previous experience with wild animals is not required as there will be full training and reference material given. The preferable candidates are at least 18 years old, will be able to dedicate a length of stay from a minimum of 8 weeks till a max of 24 weeks. Because of the international character of the centre and the campus the main spoken language is English. You need to speak and understand English to qualify for an internship or volunteering position.

We can offer housing for volunteers en interns on our campus. Feel free to ask us for the conditions!

new Openings for volunteers (OCTober 2019 till the end of March 2020)

We are looking for some hardworking volunteers/interns for our Seal Care department in the upcoming period, from October 2019 till the end of March 2020 aprox. We are looking for those persons with a desire to assist our experienced seal nurses with the day to day care and rehabilitation of the sick/injured seals patients we could have. During this period we could expect orphaned Grey seal pups, parasitic pneumonia patients and possibly trauma patients (wounds, eye problems, broken bones...) as the main cause of stranding.

Good to know...

  • Between October and March volunteers and interns need to be vaccinated against the European type influenza because people can infect seals with influenza. We can provide further information, expences will be compensated.
  • For all volunteers, living outside the Netherlands, it is required to have a travel insurance.
  • No matter how cute seals at Zeehondencentrum look you should never forget that they are wild animals and should stay wild. There are strict regulations about handling the seals.
  • It is not permitted to work around the seals when you’re pregnant.
